Quality is still an Important Factor in Wearables

We were really happy to have ComfTech as one of our exhibitors at our WT | Wearable Technologies Conference 2015 MILAN. Please read the interview to see what the CEO Alessia Moltani has to say about wearable technology:

What is the most important thing you learned while being involved in the topic of wearable technologies?

Well, quality is still an important matter in wearables, main topic let’s say; I learned that one has to be really focused. Wearable technologies can involve many markets and offer different solutions. That’s why companies should aim to a kind of specialization. ComfTech wearable systems offer high quality textile sensors embedded in high quality garments, made in Italy.

How can your company help bringing the world of fashion and the world of technology closer together?

ComfTech specializes in textiles and is absolutely interested in completely embedding electronics into garments. We strongly believe that in order to create successful wearable both engineers and designers are required, and they have to cooperate since the very beginning of the project

What is your favorite wearable product/device (besides your own) of 2015?

I was captured by the visionary synapse dress by Anouk Wipprecht, not an “everyday” solution, but nice concept of fashion tech.

Driving a real car blind through a virtual world with an Oculus Rift

Formula Drift driver Matt Powers has successfully driven his Roush Stage 3 Mustang at high speed in the real world while immersed in a 3D virtual world (via an Oculus Rift headset). Instead of the test track that he was actually driving on, Powers saw falling boulders, sheer cliff drops, crumbling and collapsing track, and other game-like elements.

Could NASA take CubeSats interplanetary?

CubeSats, tiny satellites about the size of a loaf of bread or smaller, hold the promise of opening space up to low-budget space missions, but currently they're largely restricted to Low-Earth Orbit (LEO). To broaden the scope of these pint-sized spacecraft, NASA is developing its CubeSat Application for Planetary Entry Missions (CAPE) concept, which would see the development of miniature space probes that can be sent in fleets on interplanetary missions for multi-point sampling, as opposed to the bus-sized, do-it-all probes that are currently in service.

Hyperlens significantly boosts image resolution of microscopic objects

Using visible light magnified through a compound series of lenses to image small objects, standard optical microscopes have been with us for many centuries. Whilst continually being improved, the result of these many advances of optics and image-capturing techniques means that many high-end optical microscopes have now reached the limit of magnification possible as they push the resolution properties of light itself. In an attempt to resolve this issue, scientists at the University of Buffalo (UB) have created a prototype visible light "hyperlens" that may help image objects once only clearly viewable through electron microscopes.

Rain Lamp makes a splash at home

A new light by designer Richard Clarkson puts two elements together that are ordinarily kept well apart. The Rain Lamp combines water and electricity, with light shone through a reservoir in the bottom of a large, clear, acrylic globe. The light creates "mesmerizing ripple patterns" on the floor or surface below.

FDA ticks off first drug to treat radiation sickness after nuclear disasters

A drug long-used to counter the negative effects of chemotherapy has won US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for use in treating the nasty effects of exposure to radiation following a nuclear disaster. Known commercially as Neupogen, the drug has been shown to work by shielding the body's white blood cells to heighten a patient's chances of survival.
